Performing Arts are an important part of life at OLMC. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities offered and to enjoy rehearsing and performing with a great group of people who share the same interests. Students can develop new skills, extend their talents and represent their school.
For students who enjoy singing, there are many opportunities to excel. Firstly, the College Choir rehearses once a week, and has performed at many events including Performing Arts Festivals, Liturgies, Concerts and Community events, as well as recording a CD.
Vocal Ensemble: Entry to the Vocal Ensemble is by audition. Members of this special group are held in high regard throughout our community and have featured in many performance opportunities including OLMC concerts, Open Day, community concerts, WYD Cross celebrations, and our CD recording. This group has a lesson/rehearsal one lunchtime per week.
Harmony group: For advanced senior singers. Selected members of the choir and vocal ensemble will be invited by music staff to join this group.
For students who play a band instrument, we offer the opportunity to join the Senior Wind Instrumental Group (“S.W.IN.G.”). This ensemble, conducted by a wind specialist, performs at school concerts and community events. The group rehearses once a week, before school.
Percussionists and members of the Senior Wind Ensemble are also invited to join the Combined De La Salle/OLMC Band. This band rehearses on Wednesdays after school at Caringbah De La Salle. There are many performance opportunities and in some years a performance tour forms an exciting part of the program.
OLMC String group: Students who play an orchestral string instrument are strongly encouraged to join our String Group. This group is trained by a string specialist and has made a valuable contribution to many school assemblies, Concerts, Liturgies, Open Day and various other community events.
Dance Troupe: The OLMC Troupe rehearses one morning per week before school. It has had great success performing in concerts and community events and even gaining prizes in eisteddfods.
Musical: OLMC has a long and proud history of staging successful musical productions and they are one of the highlights of our school calendar. In recent years our shows have included: “Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (2005) & “Disney’s Aladdin” (2007). In 2009 we presented “Grease” -our first joint musical with De La Salle Caringbah - which was a great success. In 2010 the joint venture continues with “The Wiz”, which is being eagerly anticipated!
We strongly encourage students to take up the wonderful opportunities being offered at OLMC. The advantage of learning music and dance extends into other areas across the curriculum, as well as being a great way to meet new friends and develop a sense of belonging to our school community.
